I.  Monitoring of Advanced Operational Bases


On the ground, defense forces often operate outside populated areas, in isolated, high-risk areas. On this basis, 24/7 surveillance is not easy, but vital for staff safety and mission success. Threats are unpredictable and come from all directions.

SPYNEL is a high-resolution thermal imaging system, for monitoring all movement, in a full 360-degree field of view, in real-time. These infrared panoramic sensors, in the 3-5 or 8-12µm spectral range, automatically detect and track targets using complex algorithms.

In addition to installed radars or PTZ cameras, SPYNEL provides a high-resolution 360-degree image of several megapixels, in total darkness, in adverse weather conditions. This innovative system works, by analogy, like an optical radar coupled with powerful analysis software. The data provided by SPYNEL is used by the troops in place to precisely locate the threats in the most demanding operational environments and as a source of intelligence on insurgents or terrorists in the area. The recorded sequences can be replayed, after an incident, to identify the enemy’s strategy.


The Special Forces use the 360 ° SPYNEL-M sensor as part of their operations to deal with any unforeseen circumstances. Whether it is an emergency to protect a temporary area during a mission, to secure a place in preparation for intervention or during the visit of important personalities, or even to identify suspects during intelligence phases, the sensors SPYNEL thermals provide you with high definition images in real-time, day or night, in complete discretion.

Detect, identify and accurately confirm the presence of imminent threats, and track them automatically. Our Spynel-M cameras are compact and quickly deployable. Completely passive, they guarantee user stealth and are therefore used by Special Forces in many countries.


Monitoring of isolated / desert areas: 360 ° infrared cameras can be installed in the center of the site to be protected, or be abandoned upstream of the area to be protected, allowing the installer not to expose himself to danger, while avoiding the surroundings of the area to be secured.

Securing special events, VIP procession: the cameras can be deployed very quickly; the reduced bandwidth allows the sensor to be connected to a remote control center. The SPYNEL system can also “accompany” a VIP on his travels, and be installed in places visited by the latter, from a roof for example. SPYNEL also provides surveillance of the seafront, aircraft on the ground, rural or desert areas in the event of an unforeseen stoppage of a VIP convoy.

Vehicle surveillance: SPYNEL-M cameras are easily installed on autonomous cars (USV) to conduct reconnaissance missions.

Speed of deployment: SPYNEL-M is particularly appreciated by Special Forces for its very rapid deployment capabilities, during a convoy stop, on a supply pad, or even to monitor an improvised camp.

Compact, light, and autonomous on battery: SPYNEL-M measures 12 × 20 cm and weighs 1.8 kilograms. It is easily transportable, in a backpack for example.

Lightweight power supply: The SPYNEL 360 ° infrared sensor can also be powered via POE or solar panels, and the low bandwidth allows access to the camera from one or more remote control centers.


Military air bases are the hub for the deployment of the country’s air forces. These are critical sites that must be fully secure, outside and inside their perimeter. These sensitive sites can be the target of potential attacks by terrorists or criminal organizations.

Long-range optronic sensors such as the SPYNEL® panoramic thermal cameras ensure detection, tracking, and classification of all threats, from intruders to small animals. Drone intrusion is also a growing concern. Thanks to its panoramic vision, SPYNEL provides continuous, long-distance protection of the base, allowing it to react proactively in the event of a symmetrical or asymmetrical attack.

Passive IR technology for Intrusion Detection: a must-have for Air Bases

Air traffic control radars are common basic equipment used for air traffic surveillance. Such radars are particularly sensitive to interference which may be generated by perimeter security fences or other active detection systems. The passive technology of SPYNEL® intrusion detection cameras is therefore essential to avoid any disturbance to surveillance radars. With their automatic detection of multiple long-range threats and their rapid deployment capability, SPYNEL® panoramic thermal cameras are the ideal solution for 24/7 airbase surveillance.

Usually installed on the airbase control tower, the SPYNEL IR camera can scan the site 360 ​​° in real-time. The real-time visualization combined with the automatic threat classification function makes it easier to understand the situation, making it easy to distinguish wildlife from an intruder with a guaranteed low false alarm rate.



Military bases, whether temporary or permanent, must be secured against possible terrorist attacks. Shelters are often deployed in a hostile and isolated environment, outside the camp. Their surveillance is essential to ensure the safety of soldiers and operations. A rapid deployment of a thermal camera on the roof of the shelter or on a mast provides a protective bubble around the shelter while allowing the soldiers to remain focused on their mission

Intelligent, scalable detection, tracking and classification

Driven by the Cyclope software , the HGH monitoring solution provides a simple and intuitive configuration of warning and detection zones as well as predefined alarm triggering rules.

As soon as a threat is detected, the Cyclope software sends an automatic alert to the operator. With its extremely low false alarm rate, the operator can remain focused on his mission while benefiting from effective protection.

HGH has developed an IRST solution based on the SPYNEL technology, a Passive Early Warning System that offers ships 360° protection from asymmetrical threats.

Low air targets such as missiles, drone swarms, and other fast-approaching threats such as RHIBS make it difficult for current surveillance sensors to ensure full protection of the vessel. In order to provide a full panoramic 3D defensive bubble, an adapted, gyrostabilized and passive IRST must be added to the vessel’s existing security system. 

HGH’s SPYNEL-X replaces up to 90 HD MWIR cameras in one single sensor head. As a completely passive system, the SPYNEL-X is invisible to intruders and cannot be tricked by camouflage or jamming. More than ever, situational awareness is a key factor to fleet protection. The current marine battlefield is constantly evolving, as latest-generation technologies emerge. Threats are multiplying and take various forms.

HGH developed an IRST solution based on the SPYNEL® technology: a passive early warning system embarked on the ship for 360° surveillance protection against asymmetrical threats, autonomous system and quick reaction time, and enhanced situational awareness with no blind sector. It can operate under rough sea conditions.

The SPYNEL-X IRST, a sea-proven and fully passive solution suited for self-protection of all surface vessels, is able to automatically and simultaneously detect, track and classify air and surface threats, in any direction. SPYNEL IRST combines the performance of two SPYNEL-X sensors with CYCLOPE Hypervisor’s data fusion technology. A single SPYNEL-X sensor can perform 24/7 early human intrusion alerts over a 16km-diameter area and can be quickly deployed and configured. The 120 Mpix panoramic visualization, identified at any time from any direction, including hardly detectable targets such as: RHIBs, low altitude air targets, UAVs and stealth aircrafts.


The Spynel Device provide SELF-PROTECTION for the SHIPS

The security stakes are high for the sea operators. Ships remain very vulnerable at sea and even more at moorage: reduced crews, minimum vigil, and high isolation make cargos and super-yachts an easy target, especially at night. A high number of attacks are likely to come from all angles, by small wooden boats. Large volumes of attacks can be foiled by an early warning and taking preemptive action before an attack occurs.

The National Naval security is able to install the Spynel on multiple war frigates. These ships were patrol vessels focused on anti-piracy missions and were frequently harbored where terror cells seek maritime targets. The system was thoroughly tested and proved it could effectively detect small wooden watercraft in open sea, choppy conditions, and could efficiently monitor the entire 360-degree perimeter while docked.

The Spynel can be integrated with AIS and radar systems. Built up to military standards, the solution can easily provide the same superior functionality within law enforcement, narco-traffic, commercial shipping, and private yachting applications. Combined with its navigation uses, the Spynel will be unmatched within maritime perimeter surveillance operations for the foreseeable future and ship crews can rest assured of their persistent protection.

Spynel for passive surveillance at long distance

The Spynel sensors are the only thermal cameras that can provide a 360 wide field of view with very high resolution and detection range, no image distortion and no stitching. They act as optical radars but can pick up targets that radar could not detect, such as small wooden boats. The system is able to detect skiffs up to the horizon.

The Spynel cameras can successfully operate at sea state level 5/6 (rough to very rough sea) thanks to an autonomous gyro-stabilized platform. In addition to mechanical stabilization, the Spynel comes with a sea-specific image processing stabilization algorithm. This built-in image processing allows for minimal false alarm rate and effective differentiation between distant small boats and waves.
