The Spynel IR sensors were designed by HGH Infrared Systems to meet these challenges. Spynel and its automatic detection software Cyclope display and analyze HR 360° thermal images, in real-time. The threats are automatically detected and tracked up to the horizon, 24/7, wherever they come from (large airfields, wide desert areas around FOBS and compounds, land or maritime borders, ports, estuaries.

SPYNEL is a high-resolution thermal imaging system, for monitoring all movement, in a full 360-degree field of view, in real-time. These infrared panoramic sensors, in the 3-5 or 8-12µm spectral range, automatically detect and track targets using complex algorithms.

In addition to installed radars or PTZ cameras, SPYNEL provides a high-resolution 360-degree image of several megapixels, in total darkness, in adverse weather conditions. This innovative system works, by analogy, like an optical radar coupled with powerful analysis software. The data provided by SPYNEL is used by the troops in place to precisely locate the threats in the most demanding operational environments and as a source of intelligence on insurgents or terrorists in the area. The recorded sequences can be replayed, after an incident, to identify the enemy’s strategy.

To ensure security, traditional measures include CCTV cameras and patrols, but night surveillance requires additional surveillance equipment.

By 2020, the Federal Aviation Administration (FFA) expects the number of UAVs flying in the US to be as many as 30,000. This figure is disturbing given the recent number of incidents involving UAVs flying over or landing on critical infrastructures all over the world – the White House, the Prime Minister of Japan’s office, the Golden Gate Bridge, nuclear sites in France, prison facilities, etc. Acoustic sensors or radars fail in detecting the low speed and low electromagnetic signature of small UAVs, making more modern technologies such as infrared technology the best option to prevent these new threats from harming people or destroying critical infrastructures.

The Infrared Solution to detect & track UAVs:
With Spynel’s thermal imaging technology, it is impossible for a drone to go unnoticed: any object, hot or cold will be detected by the 360° thermal sensor, day and night.

Working in tandem with the Cyclope intrusion detection software, Spynel tracks an unlimited number of targets (either airborne, terrestrial or maritime threats) to ensure that no event is missed over a long-range, wide-area surrounding.

The basic classification of targets (ground or airborne) is based on elevation calibration and all air targets are represented by a small plane icon. Thermal imaging allows for day and night surveillance but also guarantees the ability to view any object, even deemed as stealth, whether it is hot or cold.
